Tall Poppy sewalong – intermission

Beginner template tips

As you probably know, I’ve been at Quiltcon in the US for the last couple of weeks and am just starting to get over the jetlag and back into the sewing.

While I was away I had a couple of questions from new quilters on how to use the templates provided in the pattern rather than buying an acrylic set. So, first up is a quick explainer on how I make templates at home (note this video is tracing the 7” convex template).

Next is a tip on how I use the paper templates rather than making my own set of plastic ones. I’d never use this approach for a large quilt made with the 3.5” template, but I’ve certainly done it for the Tall Poppy wallhanging with the 7” template.

I’ll be back next week to start our first poppy.

Happy sewing!
