A lovely year of finishes – September goal setting
August and September goals didn’t quite work out the way I was hoping they would. I’m going to get some more done behind the scenes and then blog about it when it’s looking more realistic! So for September, my goal is to get all the triangles sewn into squares for the quilt design I started back here. It's starting to feel like cheating, as I think this is the third time I've had this project in ALYoF – but I figure if that's what I need to do to get it done, then so be it!
I don’t know if any of you have made quilts from market textiles bought on your travels, but we’re not usually talking accurately patterned, mass-produced, identically shaped colourways here. In fact, when I’ve cut all the triangles from this fabric, the long edges vary in size from 37cm to 41cm – that’s quite a lot (more than an inch for you non-metric folk).
I also found the fabric frays a lot, so my first task was to zig-zag around the short edges. Once this was complete, I’ve set aside the 37cm triangles and the aim this month is to get all the remaining triangles sewn into squares, trimmed to the same size and then zig-zagged along the outside edge. I’d also like to have all the backing cord washed and cut in preparation for quilt-as-you-go, which is how I plan to complete this quilt.
That seems do-able I think!
Has anyone else tried making a quilt from these bright South American fabrics?
PS One thing that finally happened was getting my swatch samples for my Mongolian-inspired fabrics that I posted about here. They're now for sale on Spoonflower! Very exciting...
