The Laneways quilt – what colours will you choose?

It feels so good to have this pattern out in the world! You might remember that I originally designed it for my youngest nephew, but I thought it had potential to become a pattern.

Typically, I take detailed notes during the creation process to make pattern writing easier later on. However, with the Quiltcon deadline approaching, I had to abandon that approach to finish the quilt in time for submission.

When I returned to write it, my notes were sorely lacking, so I decided to make the quilt again – this time as a throw. This also gave me the fun of selecting a new colour palette!

As often happens, I got carried away choosing colours and made up a ton of other options that would work for the pattern. I’m sharing them here (along with the colours for both the quilts I made) in case any of them take your fancy or inspire your choices.

The numbers next to the colour swatches are hex codes. If you type that number into Steph Skardal’s ‘Quilty Solid’ app, it will give you the closest solid fabric. Some will match particular solids exactly, but many are colours I generated myself, so you can pick the closest colour in your preferred brand of solids.

Whichever way you choose your palette, put all the colours together in swatches, at your local quilt shop or from your stash, to make sure the fabric colours work together as you expect. There can be a fair bit of variation between a screen colour and a fabric.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how folks make this quilt, so be sure to share on socials with the #lanewaysquilt hashtag, on Etsy, or even email me at the address below.

Happy sewing!
