Walking foot quilting workshop

$125.00

Are you one of those quilters who only makes tops? Is it because you don’t own a long-arm, or does learning free-motion quilting seem overwhelming?

Maybe walking foot quilting is for you!

This one-day, hands-on workshop will guide you through linear patterns including grids and matchstick quilting, gentle curves, as well as stitch and thread effects.

We'll explore methods to create rich textures and striking effects using your sewing machine's walking foot and a selection of thread weights. By the end of the day, you'll have the skills and confidence to create your own modern masterpiece.

Students will need to complete some preparation before the class.

WHAT TO BRING:

Some preparation will be required prior to class. Details will be sent to you on booking.

  • Sewing machine with walking foot (or dual feed). Please make sure it’s a machine you’re familiar with and that you understand how to attach the walking foot.

  • Contrasting thread (to quilt sandwiches) in 40wt. If you have other weights you’d like to try, please bring them. If you don’t, that’s also fine as I will have some for trying, they just might not be in the colours you want.

  • 80/12 and 90/14 machine needles. The larger is for trying thicker-weight threads.

  • Quilting ruler and preferred fabric marker.

  • General sewing kit – pins, scissors, stitch ripper and tweezers.
